Next possibility to research is car hire with Airbandb. Any recommended car hire firms from Picton and /or Auckland….just got to research vehicle crossing costs.Mary

Hi Mary, yes it is peak season. Gosh, how to decide! Buses might not be as regular as you expect, so you’d need to book those soon and also know that you might take an entire day to get somewhere and then not have a vehicle to go exploring once you get there (like to wineries as you will be in the city). I would hire a campervan and stay in the many campervan parks around the country – you’ll need to book those too at that time of year. Freedom camping not allowed in many parts of NZ, although if you have your own toilet, etc, you might be ok. I have a post on tips for campervanning in NZ on the blog too http://43.229.60.74/~bloggeratlarge/new-zealand/tips-for-campervanning-in-new-zealand-2/ Fun!

Both have advantages and disadvantages….what do you recommend ? Travelling 25 Jan- 11 Feb 2018 which is I know quite peak season so need to make my mind up fairly quickly! Mary
